Lake Granbury Medical Center Expands to Meet Community Needs - Second Medical Office Building Will Increase Access to Care
7/8/2013
On June 6th, Lake Granbury Medical Center (LGMC) performed its official ground-breaking ceremony for another three-story Medical Office Building. The new L-shaped building, to be constructed west of the front entrance, will meet both current and future needs.
Unlike the first standalone Medical Office Building, this facility will connect directly to the three floors of the hospital. The 37,000 square foot building will provide space for both physician offices and additional hospital services.
“We expect to move some of our specialty services – like cardiology, orthopedics, and pulmonology – to the new building,” CEO Derrick Cuenca states. “This move will bring specialty physicians closer to surgical facilities and to our inpatient units which will be a satisfier for both patients and their doctors.”
Ceremonial dirt was turned by CEO Cuenca, Rob Horar - Division II Sr. Vice President, Robert Burns - Chairman of LGMC’s Board of Trustees, and Dr. Salim Bhaloo - incoming Chief of Staff. They were joined by representatives from City of Granbury, Hood County, Economic Development Corporation, Granbury Chamber of Commerce, LGMC Auxiliary, and project partners - Ascension Group Architecture, The Sanders Trust, and Skiles Group.
Since the groundbreaking, the construction trailer has been placed, fencing should be erected just after the July 4th weekend, a temporary “exterior” staircase will be constructed, and the AirEvac crew base will be relocated on campus since the existing building will be dismantled to accommodate construction.
“We are diligently planning to maintain a safe and pleasant environment for healing during our 18-month construction. Communicating the specifics of each phase of work, providing ear plugs to patients who may be disturbed by noise, and posting signage to communicate changes to the public is a critical part of our project,” explains Assistant CEO, Matt van Leeuwe. “As with any project on campus, we take extraordinary measures to protect our patients, visitors, and staff.”
Other projects at LGMC include completion of a law enforcement substation/work area in the Emergency Department, recent ICU renovation, installation of a new 32-slice CT scanner at Lake Granbury Imaging Center, and upcoming ED patient room renovation.
