Beyond the Pill Bottle: A Modern Approach to Pain Management at Lake Granbury Medical Center

Granbury, TX – For many years, the term pain management conjured up a narrow image: prescription medications, temporary relief, and a lot of trial and error. But today’s pain management specialists are rewriting that script—and here at Lake Granbury Medical Center, the team is leading the charge.
Brycen Witcher, M.D., and Ashleigh Robertson, APRN, have joined the growing team at Lake Granbury’s pain management clinic. Together, they bring a fresh and innovative approach to treating chronic and acute pain—one that goes far beyond the outdated notion of “just pushing pills.”
“Pain is complex. It’s emotional, physical, and deeply personal,” said Dr. Witcher. “We now have evidence-based treatments that combine advanced technologies, targeted injections, nerve blocks, physical therapy collaboration, and yes, in some cases medication—but it's always part of a bigger plan focused on restoring quality of life.”
Lake Granbury Medical Center offers interventional procedures such as epidural steroid injections, facet joint injections, radiofrequency ablation, and a number of additional options focused on specific pain generators. These minimally invasive techniques target the root of the pain rather than just masking the symptoms.
Ashleigh Robertson, APRN, emphasizes the importance of individualized care. “Every patient’s pain story is different. We take time to listen and understand the full picture—what’s worked, what hasn’t, and how pain is affecting their day-to-day life,” she said. “The goal is to return patients to the activities they love, safely and sustainably.”
The team uses a number of tools including diagnostic imaging, electromyography (EMG), and ultrasound-guided injections to allow for precise diagnosis and real-time treatment adjustments. The result? A more holistic and effective approach that helps reduce reliance on long-term opioid use.
“Our patients are often surprised,” Dr. Witcher added. “They come in expecting a prescription and instead walk out with a full treatment plan—and hope.”
Scott Thompson, M.D., who leads the pain management program at Lakeside Physicians, says the evolution in treatment philosophy is long overdue. “We’re finally seeing pain management treated as the multifaceted challenge it truly is,” he said. “It’s not just about reducing pain—it’s about restoring life, dignity, and independence.”
Longtime provider Darren Rape, PA-C, agrees. “Over the years, we’ve watched patients go from barely functioning to fully participating in their lives again,” he said. “The technology is better, but what really makes the difference is the teamwork and commitment to truly understanding each patient.”
