In the aftermath of last week’s tornado, Lake Granbury Medical Center (LGMC) provided high-quality, professional emergency medical services for local residents injured in the devastating storms. Thirty-six patients were treated on the night of the tornado and eight additional patients with storm-related injuries were treated in the days following.
ED Director and Trauma Director, Kerri Sistrunk, MD comments, “First, LGMC wants to extend our gratitude to the entire medical community for the extraordinary response to this community disaster. Our government officials, VFD, first responders & EMS teams, along with an astonishing level of community support (both in volunteerism and donations) have continued to serve tornado and storm victims 24/7 since Wednesday night.”
“LGMC leadership has met to review the response of our medical staff physicians, direct patient care staff, and our ancillary support departments. We are extremely pleased that our years of training and disaster drills prepared us to provide fast, quality care during the emergency. Our review indicates that LGMC policies and procedures served us well during the disaster; but as always happens when you put these plans into action, we also identified opportunities for improvement,” reports CEO, Derrick Cuenca.
Cuenca continues, “During the week of May 12-17, LGMC celebrated Hospital Week. This is the time we reward and recognize our employees for their tireless dedication and service to patients, physicians, families, and visitors. Little did we know that this year the national celebration would take on a much deeper meaning. As CEO, I am extremely proud of the exemplary performance of our hospital, our medical community, partner agencies, and local officials as we were called into action.”
LGMC’s Disaster Information Line (817.579.2888) will remain in place until the end of the day Wednesday, May 22nd. Staff fielded hundreds of calls from family members who were attempting to locate loved ones. For now, www.RedCross.org is the best resource for finding ways to help and locating any victims that may still be hospitalized in surrounding facilities. Hood County C.E.R.T. hotlines remain in place as well. Call 682.500.2626 for those needing assistance. Call 682.500.2625 for those wanting to volunteer.
